SOMATIC MOVEMENT THERAPY | MARY SAVVA
About Me:
I am a somatic practitioner with over a 20 years of experience in community dance and 10 years in somatic movement, recently completing the three-year Integrative Bodywork and Movement Therapy (IBMT) training and now embarking on a two-year case study. My work is rooted in a commitment to embodied awareness as a pathway to healing, creativity, and social transformation. Throughout my career which began as a dancer, I have supported diverse populations—including mothers and babies,
children with additional needs, neurodiverse individuals, people living with Dementia and Parkinson’s, those facing mental health challenges, and refugees—creating spaces where bodies can find safety, expression, and reconnection.
About My Somatic Work:
My practice combines somatic touch/bodywork and movement that supports individuals to reconnect with their bodies, integrate their experiences, and rediscover their innate capacity for growth and wholeness. Drawing upon and influenced by the work of Anna Halprin, Helen Poynor , Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, and Janet Adler, alongside frameworks from IBMT, embodied anatomy, somatic psychology, and infant movement development, I work with the body’s systems—muscular, connective, fluidic—to help clients track patterns, restore trust in bodily wisdom, and cultivate embodied presence. My approach emphasises choice and the creation of safe relational spaces where sensation, emotion, and expression can emerge organically.![]()
Working with me:
I support people to reconnect with their bodies as a source of wisdom, healing, and creative expression. Through somatic bodywork and movement practices, I help individuals explore what’s held in the body—patterns, sensations, emotions—and discover new pathways for being and relating. This work touches the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of ourselves, inviting a more integrated sense of wholeness.
My work is rooted in creating spaces of safety and compassion. I believe that somatic work is not only a personal journey but also a catalyst for building more connected and empathetic communities. Whether navigating trauma, disconnection, or simply seeking deeper embodied awareness, I offer relational safe presence for transformation that honours the whole person.
What I value:
Accessibility and inclusivity in somatic practice –
• Honouring the body’s innate capacity for resilience
• Supporting people to reclaim agency and trust in their bodily experience
• Creating non-judgmental spaces for exploration and growth![]()
Sessions and workshops:
I work one-to-one and with groups across community, educational, and organisational settings. Each session is tailored to meet people where they are, offering tools and practices that can support ongoing wellbeing.
